KESWICK
RAMBLES
A
selection of walks in beautiful Northern Lakeland escorted by the
experienced leaders of Keswick Rambles from Easter until November. All
walks start from the Moot Hall in Keswick market square. Walkers for A, B,
and C walks meet 10
am. and these walks usually return between 4 and 5 pm. In midsummer, we will include CLASSIC WALKS
on certain days. These will be displayed in RED.
PLEASE
NOTE THAT THE MEETING TIME FOR ALL CLASSIC WALKS IS AT THE EARLIER
TIME OF 9 am.
These walks
leave earlier as they may be longer and more strenuous and also may involve a late
return - check with the Leader of the day. CLASSIC
WALKS
are £10
and £2
Most
A, B and C walks are between 8 and 10 miles unless
otherwise stated. No booking is necessary, tickets are available on the
day. A, B, and C walks are £8 pounds per adult, £2 pounds per
child.
A child is
a person being between 5 - 18 inclusive. Children must be accompanied by a
parent or guardian, the leader is not allowed to act as guardian. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear and bring a
packed lunch and plenty liquids. You are advised to carry your own
first-aid kit. Leaders will be present whatever the weather and will be pleased to advise on the terrain and nature
of the walk. In the interest of the group
as a whole he/she is empowered to refuse to escort anyone who appears unlikely to be able to
complete the walk and has the discretion to change the route/walk
according to conditions. Some walks require transport and fares are extra,
please
consult the leader.
GRADES.
A - A
serious walk, usually going high with steep ascents on rock and grass.
B - A good day's walk with some steep ascents, not over
strenuous.
C - Comparatively easy going on mixed ground, suitable for
most ages.
Car
Parking
As you will appreciate, parking
is a major problem in
Keswick - and also quite expensive. The traffic wardens are employed by
Allerdale Council and seem to spend more time in Keswick than
anywhere else in Allerdale - though of course Allerdale Council will
deny this. From what I hear they are totally
uncompromising
( Sorry mate, it's in the system now, more than
my job's worth!) so be sure you have fed enough into the
machine. Don't
park in one of the disabled spaces unless you have a properly
displayed disabled badge or you will almost certainly be ticketed.
There is still free parking in the back streets of Keswick
but spaces are usually few and you can spend quite some time
driving around before you hit lucky. Again, don't park in one
of the disabled spaces unless you are entitled. Sorry to sound so
negative but I'm only trying to save you 30 quid.
Another free alternative
and by far the best bet if you don't mind a half-mile walk back into
town is
the old railway station. (C'mon, you're a fellwalker - what the
hell's half a mile!) At the moment parking here is still
free and unrestricted although I have recently been informed that
this is technically private property so watch out for notices - I'll
keep you informed. At the pedestrian crossing on the
crossroads beside the war memorial turn off the main road to drive
downhill, down a long, straight road, this is Station Road, do not park
here - this is disk parking with a two hour max - keep going
around the bends and under a bridge until you reach a
mini-roundabout (¾ of a mile), turn left, the Swimming baths are on your
right and the old station car-park on your left.
Good luck!
