Keswick Rambles, Lake District Guided Walks

Years ago, Lyn and Pete used to stand in for Paul Ross when he had the odd walk he couldn't do. In those days both of them were climbing friends of Ross, but Pete was the one who did the first ascents with Paul, including "Take a Walk on the Wild Side" on Upper Falcon Crag, a hair raising route on friable rock! Nowadays they keep to the path.

Leaders Lyn and Pete

Pete's a Keswick lad, he went to Keswick School, Lyn's from the South and met Pete down there when he was at art school.
We started hill walking and climbing seriously when we came back to Keswick to live in 1990, after working in education in the South Lakes.

In the early years we climbed hard, often in the company of Paul Ross who was adding to his formidable reputation as a climber with a series of first ascents of routes which may become classics in time. He was himself part of Keswick Rambles and sparked our earliest interest in guiding walks. We walked extensively in The Lakes and in Scotland eventually amassing a respectable tally of Munros; in fact we've only twelve more to do to complete the lot. At the same time we indulged our passion for dinghy sailing on Derwentwater.

Pete's been a leader with KR for ten years now and Lyn is starting out on her fourth season; both of us hold a Mountain Leader qualification.

Walks come in 3 categories.
A = Steep, high, rocky or rugged mountain tops sometimes with longer approaches, make this a hard day; fitness essential
B = A good walk usually covering a few felltops with several ascents and descents; strenuous
C =A fairly easy walk; with maybe only one top to climb, suitable for active walkers
